Jo May - Percussion

Quote
Jo originally trained at the Royal College of Music and began her career working with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra. A trip to Sidmouth Folk Festival sparked an enthusiasm for traditional music, which led to her interest in West African and Afro-Cuban music, as well as folk music from Europe and the British Isles. She has studied West African drumming and balafon (West African xylophone) with a number of different teachers, both in England and in Senegal. And she has completed courses in Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian percussion with One Voice Music.

FolkEast 2017 will take place on the 18th, 19th and 20th  August 2017.

The main arena will open at 10 am on Friday,  SaT_Danay and Sunday

The campsite will be open for keen campers from 2 pm Thursday 17th August and will close midday Monday. Campers can also  access the food stalls in the main arena from 8 am to enjoy breakfast and early morning workshops.

We are sorry but absolutely no dogs are permitted on site other than Guide Dogs as this is a working estate.

The Glemham Hall Estate is easily accessible by road and rail, sitting between the towns of Wickham Market, Framlingham, Saxmundham and Aldeburgh. The entrance to the estate is on the A12, which connects the Suffolk Coast to London. Below you will find information on travelling to FolkEast by car, by rail and our shuttle bus, or by bike from the station.

What is the Topic Folk Club?

A Bradford-based weekly live music club that provides a stage for performers broadly in the area of folk music and song (but not folk dance). The Topic books a lot of professional artists but also, like most folk clubs, offers amateurs and budding professionals of various levels of experience a chance to perform in public. A typical annual programme has about 35 Main Guest and 15 Singers' and Musicians' evenings (including all of August), plus an evening set aside for the Annual General Meeting.
